Federation Council Deputy Speaker Konstantin Kosachev meets with Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Cuba Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz

The meeting focused on bilateral relations and expanding cooperation.


Federation Council Deputy Speaker Konstantin Kosachev met with Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Cuba Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz. The primary focus of their discussion was on bilateral relations and the expansion of cooperation.

The Deputy Speaker highlighted that the meetings and negotiations between the presidents of Russia and Cuba in May reaffirmed Moscow and Havana’s commitment to enhancing and strengthening their relations across various sectors.

“We are prepared to cooperate closely within the parliamentary framework to fulfil the agreements made by our countries’ leaders and to support our Cuban friends within our parliamentary authority,” said Konstantin Kosachev. He also mentioned that Russian parliamentarians expect constructive participation from the Cuban side in promptly addressing the tasks necessary to deepen bilateral cooperation.

Konstantin Kosachev briefed the Cuban Deputy Prime Minister on the ongoing efforts to attract Russian investors to explore promising opportunities in the Cuban market.

The Deputy Speaker expressed hope for active participation of Cuban representatives in the Fourth Eurasian Women’s Forum, scheduled for 18–20 September 2024, in St Petersburg, as well as in other international sports and cultural events planned in Russia.

During their conversation, Konstantin Kosachev and Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz delved into various topics, including the economy, tourism, cultural and humanitarian ties, the education of Cubans at Russian higher education institutions, and the opening of a branch of the Russian Museum in Havana.

Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz noted that bilateral relations are currently on the rise.

The Cuban Deputy Prime Minister detailed his perspective on the socio-economic situation in Cuba.

The meeting was also attended by Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Grigory Karasin and Andrei Shevchenko, Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Federal Structure, Regional Policy, Local Government and Northern Affairs and Head of the Federation Council’s group for cooperation with the National Assembly of People’s Power of Cuba.
