Sultanate of Oman State Council Chairman addresses Federation Council plenary session

Sheikh Abdul Malik bin Abdullah Al Khalili spoke about the development of bilateral relations and interparliamentary ties.


Chairman of the State Council of the Sultanate of Oman Sheikh Abdul Malik bin Abdullah Al Khalili addressed the 568th plenary session of the Federation Council.

Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko pointed out that Sheikh Abdul Malik bin Abdullah Al Khalili was renowned in Oman and the entire Arab world as a leading authority on Islamic law. He also chairs the Board of Trustees at the Higher Institute for Islamic Law. “The Chairman of the State Council of the Sultanate of Oman is a staunch advocate of developing friendly relations between Russia and Oman whose 40th anniversary will be celebrated in 2025. During bilateral talks, we expressed our mutual interest in deepening interparliamentary ties and the entire range of relations between Russia and Oman.”

The Chairman of the State Council of the Sultanate of Oman thanked the Federation Council Speaker for the invitation to visit Russia and to address members of the upper house of parliament. “We hope that the meeting will become a starting point for strengthening friendly relations.”

Sheikh Abdul Malik bin Abdullah Al Khalili said that, during his visit, the sides had signed a memorandum of understanding between the Federation Council and the State Council of the Sultanate of Oman. In his words, the document heralds a new important stage for strengthening bilateral relations at the level of parliaments. “We strive to expand cooperation, to organise mutual visits, to create tools for systemic interaction between countries and to unlock cooperation prospects in various spheres.”

According to the Chairman of the State Council of the Sultanate of Oman, friendly Russia-Oman relations are developing actively. “Our cooperation hinges on mutual respect and interaction in various spheres on a bilateral basis and in the multilateral format on the international arena.”

Sheikh Abdul Malik bin Abdullah Al Khalili noted that mutual visits made it possible to strengthen Russia-Oman relations; and such visits have intensified in the past few years. He recalled that Crown Prince Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham bin Tarik al-SaidMinister of CultureSports and Youth of the Sultanate of Oman, visited Russia in December 2023.
