Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Grigory Karasin comments the inauguration of Taiwan’s so-called leader

Russia’s upholds an unwavering position of principle on the Taiwan issue, Grigory Karasin pointed out.

Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Grigory Karasin offered his take on the inauguration of the so-called head of Taiwan.

“The inauguration ceremony for the newly elected “leader” of Taiwan,
Lai Ching-te, took place in Taipei, the administrative centre of this territory,
on 20 May. We all know that Taiwan’s ruling elite has made no secret of its separatist aspirations, while their patrons in the United States have been fanning these flames, despite the fact that the US recognises Taiwan as being part of the People’s Republic of China.

Washington’s take on this issue falls squarely in line with what President Vladimir Putin described as its policy to destabilise the region and the entire world and plunge them into chaos. Unfortunately, parliamentarians in several Western countries have been intent on escalating tensions by visiting the island on a regular basis.

Russia’s upholds an unwavering position of principle on the Taiwan issue: there is only one China, and the Government of the People’s Republic of China is the only legitimate government representing all of China including Taiwan as its integral part. We believe that the relations between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait is a strictly internal affair for China, and this country has every right to act in order to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Grigory Karasin pointed out.
