The Federation Council’s Deputy Speaker read out the Council Speaker’s address to the forum.

Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Inna Svyatenko took part in the Asian Women’s Forum held in Samarkand.

The Deputy Speaker read out the address of Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko to the participants and guests of the forum, who met to discuss regional approach in issues of women's economic, social and political empowerment. In her address, the Speaker thanked President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, who initiated the forum, and its organisers – the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and relevant UN bodies.

Valentina Matvienko noted that the forum was fresh evidence of Uzbekistan’s leading role in promoting international and interparliamentary cooperation. “This event will make a substantial contribution to worldwide struggle for women’s rights and for enhancing their status and role in society,” she said. The Federation Council Speaker expressed belief that the forum’s results would help promote gender equality and develop additional legislative mechanisms for this.

She pointed out the efforts of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan and its chair, Tanzila Narbaeva, to organise international platforms for discussing current issues. Valentina Matvienko emphasised the Russian senators’ readiness to support the relevant initiatives of their Uzbek colleagues.

“Women’s agenda has traditionally been at the forefront in Russia. Today, the Russian Federation is working consistently to create favourable conditions for the successful realisation of women’s creative and professional potential and for encouraging their civic and economic engagement,” the address reads. Valentina Matvienko said that the Eurasian Women’s Forum was a major venue for exchanging views on these issues and invited Asian female leaders to attend its events scheduled for September 2024.

Following the plenary meeting of the Asian Women’s Forum, Inna Svyatenko noted that the forum had become a solid platform for exchanging knowledge, experience and ideas on strengthening women’s role in society.

“The participation of delegates from all walks of life in such events is bolstering solidarity among women from different cultures and countries and helping create influential international partnerships, which is empowering women to increase their contribution to addressing global problems,” she said.
