The message suggests that the Parliament should clarify the official position on its President’s remarks.
Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Grigory Karasin sent a message to the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, suggesting that the legislature should clarify its official position on the remarks made by the President of the National Assembly Alen Simonyan at the Conference of Speakers of the EU Parliaments in Palma, Spain, on 22 April 2024.
Grigory Karasin presented his position on this matter at the 566th Meeting of the Federation Council on 24 April 2024.
His message states that the remarks by the Armenian National Assembly President have evoked a negative public response in Russia.
“We have received numerous messages from Russian citizens, asking for an explanation as to whether Mr Simonyan’s clearly anti-Russia remarks reflect the official position of the National Assembly of Armenia.”
“In this regard, I would like to ask you to clarify on whose behalf the President of the Armenian Parliament addressed the conference and whether the assessments he presented align with the allied relations between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Armenia, as well as the centuries-old bonds of friendship between our peoples,” Grigory Karasin’s message says.
