Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Defense and Security Vladimir Bulavin holds a briefing for foreign military attaches

The participants were updated on the Federation Council Committee’s performance in 2023 and its position on current military-political issues.

Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Defense and Security Vladimir Bulavin held a briefing for foreign military attaches accredited in Russia.

The meeting was attended by first deputy chairs of the Federation Council Committee Viktor Bondarev, Vladimir Chizhov and the Federation Council Committee member Sergey Kolbin.

Vladimir Bulavin informed foreign military attaches on the Federation Council’s role in the system of government agencies, and spoke about the structure, activities and immediate work plans of the Federation Council Committee on Defense and Security.

According to the senator, over the last year the Federation Council Committee has held more than 50 events in various formats on state and public security, the implementation of state defense orders, and the development of the military-industrial complex.

“The range of our tasks is quite wide. However, we concentrate our efforts on the main thing: legislative activity on defense and security of the country, as well as citizens of Russia. Last year, almost two hundred federal laws were considered at 22 Committee meetings, with 54 of them recommended for approval by the Federation Council by the Committee as the responsible executor,” Vladimir Bulavin stressed.

The legislator also touched upon cooperation with states friendly to Russia.

While characterizing the international situation and speaking about global and regional security, Vladimir Bulavin noted that the West was not showing a willingness to consider Russia’s security concerns and did not want to work to remove key contradictions that have arisen as a result of the extremely hostile policy of the United States and NATO towards Russia.

“In these conditions, our Committee’s activities are aimed first of all at ensuring security of the multiethnic nation of Russia and implementing the tasks set by the President of the Russian Federation,” Vladimir Bulavin emphasised.

The Committee Chair expressed hope for further constructive cooperation with military attaches in specialised interaction with the Federation Council.

Vladimir Bulavin’s briefing was attended by officers representing friendly states’ military agencies.
