The Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council met with Arab countries’ ambassadors accredited in Russia.
Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev held a meeting with the heads of diplomatic missions of the Arab states who are accredited in the Russian Federation.
The meeting was attended by the ambassadors extraordinary and plenipotentiary of Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, Lebanon, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Sudan, Tunisia, the Deputy Head of Mission of Bahrain, the Chargé d'Affaires a.i. of the United Arab Emirates and the Interim Representative of the League of Arab States in Moscow.
According to Konstantin Kosachev, meetings in this format have become regular because they allow for the discussion of any issues that contribute to expanding relations between parliaments.
“Senators are interested in further developing relations with the parliaments of Arab states because any interparliamentary interaction helps promote interstate relations, and diplomats serve as conduits in interstate dialogue,” underscored Konstantin Kosachev.
He informed the heads of the diplomatic missions about the involvement of the Russian parliament’s upper chamber in current political processes in the Russian Federation.
The Deputy Speaker also touched upon the issues of the Middle East, specifically the situation in Palestine following the disproportional Israeli response to the terrorist act committed by Hamas on October 7, 2023.
Arab nations’ diplomats reaffirmed their agreement with the assessments given by Russian parliamentarians, noted their identical or close approaches to the Middle East crisis resolution, and expressed gratitude for Russia’s clear stance on achieving stability in the region. They also noted Russia’s consistent actions in establishing a new just world order.
The diplomats from Arab countries offered their condolences over the recent terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall and condemned such actions.
The meeting was attended by the following Russian senators: Head of the Group for Cooperation between the Federation Council and the Senate of the National Assembly of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan Vyacheslav Timchenko, Coordinator of the Group for Cooperation between the Federation Council and the parliaments of the Arab states Iliyas Umakhanov, Head of the Group for Cooperation between the Federation Council and the Council of State of the Sultanate of Oman Mokhmad Akhmadov, Head of the Group for Cooperation between the Federation Council and the Council of the Nation of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria Yuri Valyaev, Head of the Group for Cooperation between the Federation Council and the People’s Assembly of the Syrian Arab Republic Sergey Muratov, Head of the Group for Cooperation between the Federation Council and the Senate of the Arab Republic of Egypt Farit Mukhametshin, Head of the Group for Cooperation between the Federation Council and the Consultative Assembly of Saudi Arabia, and member of the Regional Group on Cooperation between the Federation Council and the Parliaments of the States of the Persian Gulf and the Arabian Peninsula Belan Khamchiev.
