The senator delivered a report at a meeting of the Standing Committee on Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation of the Parliamentary Association of North-West Russia and briefed its participants about specific events scheduled to take place in Russia during its BRICS chairmanship.
Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Grigory Karasin took part in a meeting of the Standing Committee on Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation of the Parliamentary Association of North-West Russia.
The Legislative Assembly of the Leningrad Region hosted the event. In his remarks, the senator discussed on current interaction and priorities in the Russian Federation’s international cooperation with BRICS countries in the context of Russia’s BRICS chairmanship in 2024.
Grigory Karasin spoke about the importance of comprehensive preparations for BRICS events and informed the meeting participants about specific events scheduled to take place in Russia during its BRICS chairmanship.
According to Grigory Karasin, Russia’s 2024 BRICS chairmanship aims to consolidate positive trends in the work of this organisation in countering the collective West’s destructive policy of sanctions.
“BRICS acts as a focal point for countries striving to implement an independent foreign policy,” the MP said.
He noted that inter-parliamentary cooperation was a significant component of interaction within BRICS. “The first meeting of chairs of foreign affairs committees from BRICS countries’ parliaments, scheduled to be held on 11–12 April in Moscow, will be an important stage of preparing all of the scheduled events.”
In his remarks, Grigory Karasin touched upon preparations for the 10th BRICS Parliamentary Forum, to be held in July in St Petersburg, and the 2024 BRICS Summit to take place in October in Kazan.
The MP emphasised the significance of scheduled events for forging an equitable multipolar world order, based on international law and compliance with the principles of the UN Charter.
