Senators are willing to share their experience with their Yemeni colleagues and coordinate positions on key regional and international issues, noted the Federation Council Speaker.
Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko met with Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Yemen Arab Republic Ahmad Awad bin Mubarak.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev and Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Grigory Karasin.
Valentina Matvienko noted that Russia and Yemen have identical or similar views on establishing peace and stability in the Middle East and the formation of a new, fairer international order.
The Speaker confirmed the willingness to resume inter-parliamentary dialogue as soon as it becomes possible in conditions of the ongoing military and political crisis in Yemen.
“The senators of the Russian Federation are open to cooperation and willing to share their experience with their Yemeni colleagues and coordinate positions on key regional and international issues,” Valentina Matvienko said.
She welcomed the desire of her Yemeni colleagues to develop economic cooperation with Russia.
“We will also do everything we can to establish new interregional ties and develop closer cooperation as the situation in Yemen becomes more stable,” the Speaker said.
Valentina Matvienko expressed confidence that the visit by Ahmad Awad bin Mubarak will give a fresh impetus to the development of the entire spectrum of Russia-Yemen relations.
Ahmad Awad bin Mubarak noted that the two countries have many opportunities to strengthen and expand cooperation in order to elevate economic ties to the high level of their historical and political relations.
During the conversation, Valentina Matvienko and Ahmad Awad bin Mubarak discussed a wide range of issues, primarily focusing on economic cooperation in the context of the global political situation.
