Konstantin Kosachev: Russia-UAE inter-parliamentary cooperation continues to make strides

The Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council met with the Chairman of the Defense, Interior and Foreign Affairs Committee at the Federal National Council of the United Arab Emirates.


Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev met with Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Defense, Interior and Foreign Affairs Committee at the Federal National Council (FNC), Vice-President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and President of the IPU Task Force on Ukraine.

Senator Arsen Kanokov, head of the group on cooperation between the Federation Council and the UAE Federal National Council, also attended the meeting.

Konstantin Kosachev noted that Russia-UAE relations, which were established 52 years ago, continue to expand dynamically.

The Deputy Speaker praised the UAE’s aspiration to join BRICS as a fully-fledged participant. “Russian parliamentarians are ready to assist our Emirati friends in this matter in every possible way,” Konstantin Kosachev said.

He added that the BRICS summit and the traditional meeting in the BRICS Plus/Outreach format will be held in October in Kazan, and that Russian senators were expecting their colleagues at the Parliamentary Forum in St Petersburg.

Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi expressed satisfaction with the meeting with Russian senators and reaffirmed his commitment to a further deepening of relations across the board.

During the conversation, the parties addressed a wide range of matters related to bilateral cooperation, as well as current issues on the IPU agenda

A separate discussion focused on the interaction between Russian parliamentarians and the IPU Task Force on Ukraine.
