Grigory Karasin took part in the roundtable meeting Russia-Türkiye: The Role of Media in Boosting Cooperation

Full-fledged work of the Russian-Turkish Public Forum will boost ties between the two countries, says Senator.

Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Grigory Karasin took part in the roundtable meeting, Russia-Türkiye: The Role of Media in Boosting Cooperation. The meeting was held at the TASS news agency.

The event was attended by heads of Russian and Turkish media, representatives of the Russian Foreign Ministry and the Turkish Embassy in Russia. The discussion focused on the current state of relations between Russia and Türkiye and the role of the media in the interstate dialogue.

Grigory Karasin noted the exceptionally high dynamics of Russian-Turkish cooperation and collaboration on a wide range of issues. Especially valuable, he said, was the existence of a trustful dialogue between the leaders of the two countries, who are constantly in contact, discussing the most pressing issues on the bilateral and international agenda, thus setting the general tone and pace of interaction between Russia and Türkiye.

”Russia and Türkiye continue to be important partners to one another, with relations based primarily on the principles of neighbourliness and mutual consideration of interests. This dictates the need to intensify bilateral interaction in the information field, strengthening contacts between representatives of state and private media of the two countries. It is precisely now, when the world’s media, unfortunately, is biased and abound in purposeful large-scale and well-planned misinformation campaigns, that we feel an acute need for unbiased, honest coverage of the events taking place in Russia and Türkiye. Moreover, the potential here is really great, but it has not been fully tapped,“ said Grigory Karasin.

He mentioned the relevance of resuming the full-fledged work of the Russian-Turkish Public Forum, designed to activate ties between the two countries in the humanitarian sphere, including in the media. ”We need to know and understand each other better. It is the media that plays an important role here,“ the senator noted.

Before the session, the roundtable participants opened a photo exhibition dedicated to cooperation between Russia and Türkiye, in front of the TASS building. It presents two dozen historical and contemporary photos by the agency's photo correspondents reflecting the long-standing dialogue between the two countries.
