The senator met with the Chairman of the Education and Research Commission of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Science, Education and Culture, member of the group on cooperation between the Federation Council and the Assembly of the Islamic Council of the Islamic Republic of Iran Lilia Gumerova held a meeting with Chairman of the Commission on Education and Research of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Iran Alireza Monadi Sefidan.
The senator noted that the Russian Federation cherished friendly relations with Iran. ”Iran is our good neighbour and an important strategic partner.“
Lilia Gumerova emphasised that bilateral ties were developing at the highest level. Contacts between legislative bodies were being actively promoted, including within the group on cooperation between the Federation Council and the Assembly of the Islamic Council of Iran.
”Our unconditional priority is to build up trade and economic cooperation. The Intergovernmental Commission plays a key role in this regard. A bilateral treaty on comprehensive strategic partnership is being finalised now,“ Lilia Gumerova said.
According to her, considerable attention is also paid to the development of cultural and humanitarian ties between the two countries. ”We expect the Iranian side to ratify the intergovernmental agreements on cultural centres and cooperation in the field of information security signed in 2021. From the Russian side, all the necessary domestic procedures have been fulfilled.“
The senator noted the importance of reaching agreement on an intergovernmental arrangement on the recognition of education documents. She said that more than 6,000 Iranian students were studying in Russia this year, 213 of them at the expense of budgetary allocations.
Lilia Gumerova, representing the Republic of Bashkortostan in the Federation Council, spoke about the active development of the region's ties with Iranian provinces.
During the meeting, Alireza Monadi Sefidan noted that the Iranian side highly valued relations with the Russian Federation, a friendly neighbouring state. He spoke in favour of further intensifying inter-parliamentary, scientific ties and mutually beneficial inter-regional relations.
Alireza Monadi Sefidan also provided information on the development of science, education and high technology in Iran.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Science, Education and Culture Ekaterina Altabaeva, Russian senators — members of the group on cooperation between the Federation Council and the Assembly of the Islamic Council of Iran Nikolay Lubimov and Andrey Chernyshev, Iranian parliamentarians, and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Iran to the Russian Federation Kazem Jalali.
