Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev is taking part in the Caspian Scientific and Educational Congress in Astrakhan.
Speaking at the plenary session of the Congress, the Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council emphasised the unique role of the Caspian region, especially in the context of changing geopolitical modalities, when the “Eurasia from Murmansk to Mumbai” model comes to replace the “Europe from Lisbon to Vladivostok” concept. Konstantin Kosachev noted that the total GDP of the region has grown almost three-fold over 20 years, and mutual trade has increased five-fold.
The parliamentarian mentioned the creation of an International Consortium involving seven countries to develop the North-South transport corridor, the capacity of which, according to the Russian Government’s calculations, will double by 2030 and will be comparable in terms of traffic to the Suez Canal.
Also, an innovative educational platform, The Fundamentals of Military Training and Tactical Medicine, opened on the sidelines of the Congress. Konstantin Kosachev noted the relevance of this event in the context of the special military operation. In this regard, he spoke about the parliamentarians’ initiative to reopen military departments at medical universities, supported by the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Healthcare.
The Caspian Scientific and Educational Congress is being held for the first time at the initiative of Astrakhan Region Governor Igor Babushkin. It will run from 29 to 31 May and include forums, plenary meetings, strategic sessions and expert discussions on a wide range of issues.
The Congress organisers are the government of the Astrakhan Region, the regional consortium of educational organisations of higher learning and scientific organisations, state universities, academies, a conservatory and an institute.
