The Deputy Speaker attended the first meeting of the Expert Council of the Inter-Parliamentary Commission on Cooperation between the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia.
Federation Council Deputy Speaker Yury Vorobyov took part in the first meeting of the Expert Council of the Inter-Parliamentary Commission on Cooperation between the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia.
Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Defence and Security Viktor Bondarev, First Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Vladimir Dzhabarov, member of the Federation Council Committee on Social Policy Andrey Chernyshev, First Deputy Chair of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots Kazbek Taysaev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to the Russian Federation Vagharshak Harutiunyan, and representatives of the Russian Foreign Ministry attended the Council session. The meeting was chaired by the Co-Chairman of the Russian part of the Commission’s Expert Council, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Armais Kamalov.
Yury Vorobyov welcomed the meeting participants, noting that the Expert Council members were reliable and permanent partners of the Inter-Parliamentary Commission.
“As a public advisory body, the Expert Council plays an important role in the scientific, legal, expert and information-analytical support of the Commission’s activity,” Yury Vorobyov emphasised.
He indicated practical cases and socially significant projects implemented with the participation of the Expert Council. Among them were the development of interregional cooperation, purchase and transfer of educational literature in Russian to Armenian schools, opening of Russian centres in Armenia, as well as humanitarian assistance.
“Development of cultural and humanitarian cooperation, including its key components such as the scientific and education areas and preservation of historical memory are among the top priorities of the Expert Council,” Yury Vorobyov said.
The Head of the Council, Armais Kamalov, briefed the attendees on the goals and objectives of the Inter-Parliamentary Commission’s Expert Council, as well as on the activities of the Heritage and Progress Foundation, established in 2020 with assistance and support from the Federation Council. In particular, these are the activities related to the production of documentary films dedicated to outstanding representatives of the Armenian and Russian peoples who have made a significant contribution to strengthening ties between Russia and Armenia, charity projects in the field of health, and environmental, patriotic, education and humanitarian activities.
Irina Krayeva, Rector of the Moscow State Linguistic University, and Vahram Karapetyan, Director General of the Moscow House Cultural and Business Centre in Yerevan, made reports on plans to promote humanitarian cooperation.
They also discussed the activities of the Council and the Foundation for the near future: the 120th birth anniversary of composer Aram Khachaturian, preparations for the scientific and educational forum, Integration of Science, Education and Production – The Driver of Economy Modernisation, and the opening of the Russian Art Museum in Yerevan.
Viktor Bondarev presented awards to those in the meeting who had made a great contribution to strengthening Russian-Armenian relations.
