The meeting was held by Chair of the Federation Council Commission on Information Policy and Media Relations Alexei Pushkov.
Chair of the Federation Council Commission on Information Policy and Media Relations Alexei Pushkov held a roundtable meeting on information confrontation amidst the growing geopolitical tensions with the West.
Opening the discussion, Alexei Pushkov noted that, having staked its hopes on weakening Russia, the United States is suffering defeat, including in the information battle. The parliament member presented three factors that seriously influence the situation. “The economic sanctions imposed by the West have formed a new geo-economic map of the world. Freezing Russia’s foreign currency reserves has triggered de-dollarisation in several countries, and this trend is here to stay. Finally, the non-Western world is growing more sympathetic to Russia as a country opposing the United States,” the senator noted.
“The outcome of the media and political confrontation between Russia and the West in 2022 and early 2023 shows that Russia has successfully countered the West’s position with its own arguments in the economy, the media and politics,” Alexei Pushkov believes.
Consequently, he emphasised the importance of resuming radio broadcasts throughout the African countries in view of the sizable potential audience on the African continent.
The National Research Institute of Communications presented a report titled Communication Regimes in Neighbouring Countries: The 2022 Unfriendliness Rating.
“The report’s authors have agreed to develop specific guidelines concerning information policy in the countries that maintain positive relations with the Russian Federation,” Alexei Pushkov said.
