Grigory Karasin and Farit Mukhametshin take part in the international conference Russia – Islamic World: Practical Steps in Media Cooperation

Grigory Karasin explained the importance of direct cooperation between Russian media and media in Islamic countries.

Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Grigory Karasin and Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Farit Mukhametshin attended the international conference Russia – Islamic World: Practical Steps in Media Cooperation.

Speaking at the conference, Grigory Karasin emphasised that the collective West is taking advantage of its monopoly on global media and social networks to carry out an unprecedented attack on freedom of speech.

“The information in the media and on social networks they dislike is deleted and labeled as fabricated,” Grigory Karaasin said. “They try to impede access to it as much as possible, deactivate relevant social media accounts and discredit people whose views differ from those that are part of the Western mainstream.”

The Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee noted the negative role of Western media platforms that have directly impacted Islamic countries and that were largely behind the so-called Arab Spring, which “led to a series of political crises, coups and civil wars in Muslim countries.”

Grigory Karasin said that establishing direct cooperation between Russian media and media in Muslim countries could be a response to the attempts by the collective West to expand its information monopoly.
