The Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council had a meeting with the Speaker of Parliament of the Republic of Abkhazia.
Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev had a meeting with Speaker of the National Assembly (Parliament) of the Republic of Abkhazia Lasha Ashuba, who is heading a delegation of Abkhazian MPs on an official visit to the Russian Federation.
“Russian legislators are ready to discuss any issues on the bilateral agenda with their Abkhazian counterparts,” Konstantin Kosachev noted.
The Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council noted that Russia and Abkhazia were linked by bonds of friendship, respect and trust. He said that the Federation Council Speaker was focusing on the development of Russian-Abkhazian inter-parliamentary ties and thanked the Abkhazian MPs for their timely support of the sovereignty of the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics.
Lasha Ashuba noted that the delegation of the National Assembly (Parliament) of the Republic of Abkhazia (of the new convocation) was making its first foreign visit to Russia. According to the Speaker of Abkhazian Parliament, relations between both countries are based on a vast legal framework and have strategic partnership status.
During the meeting, the sides outlined plans for subsequent inter-parliamentary interaction. They agreed to hold a meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Commission for Cooperation between the Federation Council and the National Assembly (Parliament) of the Republic of Abkhazia in the near future.
Viktor Bondarev, Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Defence and Security and Co-Chair of the Russian section of the Inter-Parliamentary Commission for Cooperation between the Federation Council and the National Assembly (Parliament) of the Republic of Abkhazia, and Commission members, namely, Belan Khamchiev, Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Agriculture and Food Policy and Environmental Management, and Arsen Kanokov, a member of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs, attended the talks.
