Senators from the RF and members of the Chamber of Young Legislators at the Federation Council held a meeting via videoconference with young MPs from the Republic of Mozambique. Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev welcomed the young MPs.
“I consider such dialogues very important and timely,” he said. Konstantin Kosachev recalled that during the recent visit by the Federation Council Speaker to Mozambique, MPs from both countries had identified specific cooperation projects.
“The Federation Council created a friendship group with the Parliament of Mozambique. It is compiling a roadmap to monitor the implementation of these projects. Importantly, young people from Russian regions and Mozambique provinces have joined these efforts. Your energy, persistence and initiatives may considerably supplement the agenda,” Konstantin Kosachev said.
First Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Social Policy and Coordinator of the Chamber of Young Legislators under the Federation Council Alexander Varfolomeev acted as a moderator of the event.
Alexander Varfolomeev expressed the hope that the first meeting held as a follow-up to the agreements reached during the above-mentioned visit by the Federation Council Speaker would lay the ground for regular contacts between young lawmakers from Russia and Mozambique, both via videoconference and in-person.
“The visit of the Federation Council delegation to Maputo provided an impetus to cooperation between the upper chamber of the Russian Parliament and the Assembly of Mozambique. They made an important step towards enhancing the contractual framework,” the Senator said.
He said that Mozambique was Russia’s reliable, time-tested partner in Africa. “We continue building our traditional ties along the lines of constructive, mutually beneficial cooperation,” he said.
Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on the Budget and Financial Markets and Head of the Federation Council Group on Cooperation with the Assembly of the Republic of Mozambique Mukharby Ulbashev noted the steadily developing political dialogue between the two countries, their productive cooperation at different international venues, including the UN, and their trade, economic, military-technical and humanitarian ties.
Deputy Minister for Science and Higher Education Natalya Bocharova described bilateral cooperation in higher education. She highly valued the balanced position of the Mozambican leadership during the Western political and sanctions pressure on the Russian Federation.
Chair of the Chamber of Young Legislators Alexander Sapronov spoke about the importance of cooperation between the young generations of the two countries for the future development of bilateral relations. “In the new reality, when the world order is undergoing transformation, there is a particular demand for the ideas of the young MPs. The energy of young people will be channelled into the joint promotion of mutually beneficial initiatives and the deepening of friendship between our nations,” said Alexander Sapronov.
According to Olivia Fernando Matavele, Chair of the Parliamentary Youth Cabinet, Member of the Commission on State Administration and Local Government Bodies, and Deputy from the Maputo Province, the current meeting marked the start of cooperation between the young MPs of Russia and Mozambique.
Olivia Fernando Matavele expressed the hope for the continuation of fruitful contacts.
During the dialogue, young MPs from Russia and Mozambique discussed youth participation in the political life of both countries.
The meeting was also attended by Yulia Lazutkina, Member of the Federation Council Committee on Federal Structure, Regional Policy, Local Government and Northern Affairs, Member of the Federation Council Committee on Constitutional Legislation and State Building Artem Sheikin, and members of the Chamber of Young Legislators.
