Event participants paid tribute to the heroes of the Great Patriotic War at the Mound of Glory memorial complex in Minsk.
On Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus, participants of the Memory Train campaign visited the Mound of Glory memorial complex in Minsk to pay tribute to the heroes of the Great Patriotic War.
The participants observed a minute of silence in memory of the heroes at the ceremony beside the Mound of Glory. They also laid wreaths and flowers.
As President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said at the ceremony, the time has come for young people to take up the torch from the older generations and to keep the Eternal Flame burning.
“There are many young people here today, including young Belarusians and Russians who came to Minsk on the Memorial Train. It is very important that you communicate, make friends and uphold the honour and glory of the generation of victors together,” said Alexander Lukashenko.
The Belarusian head of state welcomed the Memorial Train, the parliamentarians’ initiative.
After the wreath-laying ceremony Alexander Lukashenko met with the participants of the youth patriotic event.
Anisa Gamzalamagomedova, a gymnasium pupil from Kizilyurt, Republic of Dagestan, proposed to declare next year the Year of Historical Memory in Belarus and Russia together.
The President was presented with a photo album and a symbol of the Memory Train.
The Memory Train participants were accompanied in Minsk by the Federation Council Deputy Speaker Konstantin Kosachev, member of the Federation Council Committee on Social Policy Vladimir Krugly, and member of the Federation Council Committee on Science, Education and Culture Irina Kozhanova.
