Konstantin Kosachev: Bilateral relations between Russia and Iran are developing at an accelerated pace

Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev held a meeting with Chairman of the Internal Affairs of the Country and Councils Commission of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran Mohammad Saleh Jowkar.

Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Federal Structure, Regional Policy, Local Government and Northern Affairs Andrei Shevchenko also attended the meeting.

“Russia and Iran are resisting attempts to create a unipolar world led by the United States. Experience confirms that threats, sanctions and blackmail by the West do not lead to the expected result,” stressed Konstantin Kosachev.

He said that relations between Russia and Iran are developing. Trade volumes and investment cooperation are increasing.

”We note Iran's interest in such integration associations as the SCO and BRICS. Russia is interested in seeing ties with these entities continue to grow closer,“ noted Konstantin Kosachev.

Mohammad Saleh Jowkar agreed with Konstantin Kosachev's assessment of bilateral relations and the current situation since the start of the special military operation in Ukraine. According to him, the Iranian experience has proved that it is possible to stand up to the Western world and the United States, and that having political and economic ties with Russia helps to resist the pressure and overcome emerging difficulties. The parliamentarian emphasised that Iran fully shares Russia's position on Ukraine and supports its actions. He expressed confidence that the US sanctions could be neutralised, including through parliamentary ties.

Konstantin Kosachev, Andrei Shevchenko and Mohammad Saleh Jowkar touched upon current foreign policy topics and discussed in detail regional and local governance issues as well as interparliamentary relations.
