Valentina Matvienko: The potential developed in the CIS over 30 years gives us confidence that the Commonwealth will overcome new challenges

The demand for regional associations will grow, said the Speaker of the Federation Council in her conversation with journalists.

The potential developed in the CIS over 30 years, the synchronised legislation, model laws, economic integration and industrial cooperation, as well as the many agreements between Russian constituent entities and regions of the Commonwealth countries give us confidence that the Commonwealth will overcome new challenges.

This is what Valentina Matvienko, Speaker of the Federation Council and Chair of the Council of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, told journalists after the IPA CIS anniversary meeting. The meeting of the parliamentarians was held in Alma-Ata on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Assembly.

The Federation Council Speaker noted that the cooperation inside CIS was based on the principles of mutual respect and consideration of each other’s interests. She said that further integration, including within the EAEU, would only intensify.

Valentina Matvienko underscored that the demand for regional associations would grow, taking into account the policy of the collective West headed by the United States, when the very basis of global political and economic cooperation is being destroyed.

The Federation Council Speaker believes that there is a need for settlements in national currencies, given the loss of confidence in the US dollar. ”Logistics chains must be re-oriented within the Commonwealth.“ According to Valentina Matvienko, this opens new opportunities for import substitution using CIS countries’ capabilities.
