Online networks and platforms trying to violate Russian laws will inevitably feel the consequences of the applicable penalties, the statement reads.
Andrey Klimov, Chair of the Federation Council’s Ad Hoc Commission on Protecting State Sovereignty and Preventing Interference in the Domestic Affairs of the Russian Federation, and Alexei Pushkov, Chair of the Federation Council’s Interim Commission on Information Policy and Cooperation with the Media, issued a joint statement.
In it they note that online networks and platforms trying to violate Russian laws will inevitably feel the consequences of the applicable penalties.
The Senators, as chairs of these specialised commissions, cited the relevant statutes and noted that the application of specific sanctions with regard to violators of Russian law would slow down traffic and ban advertisements, and that, in the event of deliberate violations, such sanctions would completely block these channels on the territory of the Russian Federation.
“We would also like to remind online platforms operating in Russia about the need to fulfill, as soon as possible, the requirement of Federal Law of 1 July 2021 on the Activity of Foreign Individuals in the Internet Information-Telecommunications Network to register and establish a subsidiary, open an office or establish a Russian legal entity on the territory of the Russian Federation. We advise all the concerned individuals and organisations to hurry up, so as to avoid the inevitable consequences of ignoring the requirements of the Russian Federation’s laws,” the statement reads.
