Federation Council delegation paid an official visit to Dushanbe, Tajikistan, during which Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko had a conversation with President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon.

They discussed relations between Russia and Tajikistan, including expanding bilateral interparliamentary cooperation.

“Russia and Tajikistan are strategic partners and allies, and relations between the two countries are developing steadily on the basis of long-standing traditions of friendship and mutual respect,” the Federation Council Speaker said.

Valentina Matvienko thanked Emomali Rahmon for paying close attention to the parliamentary aspect of interstate relations.

The parties stated that demand for Russian-language education remained high in Tajikistani society.

Replying to journalists’ questions, Valentina Matvienko said the conversation was lengthy and detailed. “Emomali Rahmon is an experienced and wise politician, and he has provided his assessments of ongoing processes and prospects for Russian-Tajikistani relations. Just like Russia, Tajikistan is interested in expanding and deepening these relations,” the Federation Council Speaker said.

During their official visit, members of the Federation Council’s delegation, headed by Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko, visited the National Unity and Revival of Tajikistan memorial complex. The senators laid a wreath at a monument to Ismoil Somoni.
