Iliyas Umakhanov: The year of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Russia and Uzbekistan will be packed with important events

The Senator had a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Russian Federation.

Iliyas Umakhanov, First Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Science, Education and Culture and Russian Co-chair of the Commission for Cooperation between the Federation Council and the Senate of the Oliy Majilis of Uzbekistan, had a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Russian Federation Botirjon Asadov.

Vladimir Dzhabarov, First Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs, also took part in the conversation.

The parties discussed bilateral cooperation, inter-parliamentary interaction and preparations for the events marking the 30th anniversary of Russia-Uzbekistan diplomatic relations. Among the scheduled events are a meeting of the Commission for Cooperation between the Federation Council and the Senate of the Oliy Majilis of Uzbekistan, a scientific conference, contests, photo exhibitions and more.

“This anniversary year will be packed with cultural and festive events. But the key is that this year must contribute to the implementation of the agreements reached at our leaders’ meetings,” Iliyas Umakhanov said.

He pointed out that Russian and Uzbek MPs are to provide legislative support as well as monitor the implementation of the agreements.

The Senator noted that Uzbekistan has been dynamically developing, including at the level of international contacts and engagement in international organisations, including inter-parliamentary ones.

Botirjon Asadov stressed that the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations is a special date. “A great deal has been done in the past period, considering that historically it is a very short timeframe,” he said. “Tremendous efforts have been made, particularly in the past four or five years.”
