The Senator held a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Russian Federation.
Valery Ponomarev, member of the Federation Council Committee on Economic Policy and Head of the Federation Council-Bundesrat Friendship Group, held a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Russian Federation Geza Andreas von Geyr.
During the meeting, the Senator noted that he considered it important to maintain continuous dialogue with Germany. “We continue exchanging views at respected discussion venues such as the Germany-Russia Forum, St Petersburg Dialogue and Potsdam Meetings,” he said.
Valery Ponomarev emphasised the need to develop inter-parliamentary ties, including in the format of the Federation Council-Bundesrat Friendship Group.
The Senator paid attention to the importance of maintaining bilateral economic relations, particularly gas cooperation. He expressed the hope that the Nord Stream 2 pipeline will be certified and put into operation without further delay.
“This is a strictly economic project in which politics must not interfere,” he said.
Valery Ponomarev believes the current Russia-Germany Cross Year of the Economy and Sustainable Development will give an additional impetus to bilateral trade and economic cooperation.
In turn, Geza Andreas von Geyr supported the further development of mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries in various areas. He noted the great potential for cooperation in the economy, including in energy, science and culture. “We must continue our dialogue and exchange of views on important issues,” he said.
They also discussed the recognition of Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine in the European Union, including Germany, and the prospects for promoting tourism.
The meeting was attended by Valery Vasilyev, Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Economic Policy and a member of the Federation Council-Bundesrat Friendship Group.
