Konstantin Kosachev and Natalya Kochanova discuss main areas of cooperation between Russian and Belarusian parliaments’ upper chambers

Parliamentary and legislative stewardship of the implementation of the Treaty on the Creation of a Union State.


Federation Council Deputy Speaker Konstantin Kosachev, who visited the Republic of Belarus to take part in the International Youth Forum of Russian Compatriots, had a meeting with Speaker of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalya Kochanova.

The discussion focused on the main areas of cooperation between the two Union State member countries’ upper parliament chambers, in particular, in the framework of the Parliamentary Assembly of Belarus-Russia Union renewed after the elections to the Russian State Duma, as well as at international venues.

In addition, the parties talked about parliamentary and legislative stewardship of the implementation of the Treaty on the Creation of a Union State, as well as 28 union programmes approved at the meeting of the Union State Supreme State Council on 4 November 2021, and regional aspects of these integration documents.

Practical aspects of the implementation of Trains of Memory, a joint military and patriotic project, in 2022 were also discussed. The idea of this project was previously raised by the Speaker of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus during her meeting with the Federation Council Speaker.

Preparations to the meeting of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly Council scheduled to take place in Almaty, Kazakhstan, to mark the 30th anniversary of the Assembly, were also discussed.

Konstantin Kosachev also held working consultations with Sergei Rachkov, Chair of the Republic Council Permanent Commission on International Affairs and National Security, where preparations for the IX Russia-Belarus Region Forum were discussed.
