Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Konstantin Kosachev had a videoconference with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea to the Russian Federation Sin Hong-chol.
The parties discussed the outlook for bilateral relations, including at the parliamentary level.
Konstantin Kosachev noted the effective work of cooperation groups between the Federation Council and the Supreme People's Assembly (SPA) of North Korea. “The resumption of face-to-face contacts between parliamentarians, meetings and visits will further strengthen the interparliamentary dialogue,” the Senator said.
The parties also touched upon certain aspects of international and regional stability, the situation on the Korean Peninsula, nuclear security and counterterrorism.
Sin Hong-chol thanked the Russian side for its unfailing commitment to the expansion of bilateral relations. The North Korean Ambassador also spoke in detail about the recent 8th Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea and its decisions.
