Participants in the meeting discussed the harmonisation of both countries’ legislation and legislative support for trade and economic cooperation.
Deputy Federation Council Speaker Ilyas Umakhanov, co-chair of the Russian section of the Commission for Cooperation between the Federation Council of Russia and the Senate of Kazakhstan, had a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Russian Federation Yermek Kosherbayev.
Other meeting participants included Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Defence and Security Viktor Bondarev, deputy co-chair of the above-mentioned Commission’s Russian section, and Oleg Morozov, a member of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Commission’s Russian section.
Speaking of bilateral relations between Russia and Kazakhstan, Ilyas Umakhanov noted the substantial role of the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the Russian Federation. “This concerns interstate and inter-parliamentary relations.” The senator expressed hope that this good tradition would continue.
Yermek Kosherbayev noted the trust-based relations between the Kazakhstani and Russian sides, including those between the parliaments of Kazakhstan and Russia.
He raised the issue of stepping up economic ties. “Today, the presidents have lifted many barriers, and work to build a common economic infrastructure is underway. The Embassy is called on to help our business community understand what Russia needs and to eventually meet current Russian market requirements.”
