Valentina Matvienko: Solidarity Against Terrorism Day is a symbol of unity of the state and society in the fight against this evil

The declaration of Solidarity Against Terrorism Day has become a big step towards commemorating the victims of terrorist attacks throughout the country.

Colleagues,

3 September is marked in the Russian Federation as Solidarity Against Terrorism Day. We remember with sadness and sorrow the victims of terrorist attacks and the selfless security personnel who gave their lives in the relentless struggle against this global evil.

Over the past few decades, our country, which stands at the forefront of the fight against international terrorism and extremism, has been hit by numerous terrorist attacks, in which thousands of our compatriots were killed or injured. This common pain and sorrow has brought Russians together and reinforced our resolve to stand up against any sign of terror, both within the country and beyond it. Thanks to the consolidated efforts of the authorities, religious and public organisations, as well as all concerned citizens, we have brought terrorist activities down to a low level in Russia.

The international community should come to see that it is only by pooling our efforts and maintaining contact and close cooperation that we can fight effectively against this barbarous and inhuman ideology, preventing actions that are aimed at destruction and intimidation, protecting humankind from this threat and ultimately rooting out all seats of terrorism.

I wish everyone peace, all the best and prosperity.

Valentina Matvienko
