Konstantin Kosachev: We are willing to work together to establish good relations with Georgia

Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Konstantin Kosachev met with Head of the Georgian Parliamentary Faction of the Alliance of Patriots of Georgia Giorgi Lomia.

The meeting was also attended by First Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Vladimir Dzhabarov.

The officials discussed the current state of bilateral relations and prospects for overcoming the crisis, including by setting the inter-parliamentary dialogue afoot.

“Meetings with our Georgian colleagues are always interesting, important and productive,” Konstantin Kosachev said. He noted that of late people in Russia were sincerely concerned about the state of Russian-Georgian relations, given that ties between people in both countries have traditionally been warm and close.

“What is happening now is an alien scenario that is being imposed on our two nations,” the senator said, emphasising that Russia was willing to work together to establish good bilateral relations.

Giorgi Lomia said that the current situation played into the hands of the destructive forces in Georgia. “The aim of our visit is to help promote friendly and neighbourly relations between our countries, so we can co-exist peacefully.”
