Senators – members of the Interparliamentary Commission on Cooperation between the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, hereinafter referred to as the Interparliamentary Commission – met with a delegation of the Standing Committee on Foreign Relations of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia.
Yury Vorobyov, Vice Speaker of the Federation Council (FC) and Co-Chairman of the Interparliamentary Commission on Cooperation between the Federal Assembly and the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, held a meeting with a delegation from the Standing Committee on Foreign Relations of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, headed by its Chair Ruben Rubinyan.
Yury Vorobyov noted the positive dynamics in Russia-Armenia cooperation and contacts. “We are particularly happy to see the continuation of interparliamentary cooperation after the formation of the new team in the Armenian National Assembly,” Vorobyov said.
He recalled that the new speaker of the Armenian Parliament made his first official visit to Russia, which imparted additional impetus for interparliamentary cooperation between the two states as a major component of the package of multi-faceted cooperation.
“Regular dialogue between our MPs allows us to exchange views on the most important issues of Russian-Armenian relations, develop effective cooperation in multilateral formats, and discuss topical international issues,” said Vorobyov.
He pointed to the importance of the new composition of the Russian and Armenian parts of the Interparliamentary Commission that will hold its next regular meeting on June 28, 2019.
Yury Vorobyov said participants in the meeting plan to discuss the role of Russian and American public institutions in developing bilateral relations.
“This is truly important for our cooperation, Russian and Armenian MPs should maintain continuous contact with social activists and support public organisations that promote Russian-Armenian friendship and understanding, Relying on public institutions can produce a good result,” he said.
Ruben Rubinyan noted that Armenia and Russia are linked by common strategic interests that are largely advanced by interparliamentary diplomacy. “In the past few years the Interparliamentary Commission has covered a lot of ground. Special committees in the two parliaments maintain active cooperation,” emphasised Rubinyan.
The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the FC Committee on International Affairs Konstantin Kosachyov; Chairman of the FC Committee on Defence and Security and member of the Interparliamentary Commission on Cooperation between the Federal Assembly and the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Viktor Bondarev; First Deputy Chairman of the FC Committee on International Affairs and member of the Interparliamentary Commission on Cooperation between the Federal Assembly and the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Vladimir Dzhabarov; First Deputy Chairman of the FC Committee on Social Policy and Deputy Co-Chairman of the Russian part of the Interparliamentary Commission on Cooperation between the Federal Assembly and the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Igor Kagramanyan; member of the FC Committee on International Affairs Olga Timofeyeva; member of the FC Committee on Federal Structure, Regional Policies, Local Self-Governance and Affairs of the North and member of the Interparliamentary Commission on Cooperation between the Federal Assembly and the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Nikolai Tikhomirov; and member of the FC Committee on International Affairs Sergei Tsekov.
