Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko meets with President of the National Assembly of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan

The officials discussed prospects for Russian-Armenian cooperation in both the bilateral and multilateral formats.


Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko met with President of the National Assembly of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan during the Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States, which is underway in St Petersburg.

The meeting was attended by Federation Council Deputy Speaker Iliyas Umakhanov, Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Konstantin Kosachev, First Deputy Chair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs Vladimir Dzhabarov, and Secretary General — Head of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat Dmitry Kobitsky.

The parties discussed the current state of and prospects for Russian-Armenian cooperation.

Valentina Matvienko noted the positive developments in Russian-Armenian interaction. She welcomed the expansion of interparliamentary links following the formation of the new lineup in the National Assembly of Armenia. Ms Matvienko proposed resuming the activities of the Interparliamentary Commission for Cooperation between Russia's Federal Assembly and Armenia's National Assembly as well as interaction between relevant committees. According to Ms Matvienko, it would give additional impetus to cooperation.

Ararat Mirzoyan emphasised the importance of developing interparliamentary dialogue in both the bilateral and multilateral formats.
