The group’s first meeting was chaired by Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Iliyas Umakhanov and Deputy Speaker of the State Duma Sergei Neverov.
Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Iliyas Umakhanov and Deputy Speaker of the State Duma Sergei Neverov chaired the first meeting of the working group for forming a parliamentary dimension of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.
The meeting was attended by Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Konstantin Kosachev, Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Defence and Security Viktor Bondarev, First Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Economic Policy Sergei Kalashnikov, Special Representative of the Russian President on SCO Affairs and Russian National Coordinator at the SCO Bakhtiyar Khakimov, Chair of the State Duma Committee on Economic Policy, Industry, Innovative Development and Entrepreneurship Sergei Zhigarev, Chair of the State Duma Committee on Foreign Affairs Leonid Slutsky, and Chair of the State Duma Committee on Security and Corruption Control Vasily Piskarev.
Participants in the meeting approved the composition of the working group. Iliyas Umakhanov and Sergei Neverov will be in charge of coordinating its activity.
The co-chairs of the working group are Konstantin Kosachev and Leonid Slutsky. The working group also includes Viktor Bondarev, Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Economic Policy Dmitry Mezentsev, Sergei Zhigarev, Vasily Piskarev and Chair of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Compatriots Abroad Leonid Kalashnikov.
Working group co-chairs Konstantin Kosachev and Leonid Slutsky delivered reports on the Russian delegation plans for the second meeting of foreign affairs committee heads of the parliaments of the SCO member states to be held in Bishkek in April 2019.
Participants in the meeting also agreed to consider the task of recreating the meeting format of heads of parliaments of these countries as a key priority implemented by the Federal Assembly during Russia’s presidency in the organisation.
