Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko meets with Moldovan President Igor Dodon

The discussion focused on bilateral cooperation, including regional interaction


Speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko had a meeting with President of the Republic of Moldova Igor Dodon.

The meeting participants exchanged views on bilateral ties and issues on the international agenda. A special emphasis was made on the development of regional interaction.

Valentina Matvienko stressed that Russia appreciates highly its relations with Moldova. “We have common history and are interested in promoting economic and humanitarian ties. Our goal is to preserve everything good that unites our nations.”

The Speaker expressed the hope that constructive cooperation between the two countries will continue to expand.

Valentina Matvienko underscored that the Federation Council is ready to do everything necessary to create conditions for the development of mutually beneficial bilateral relations.

Igor Dodon pointed out that the people of Moldova regard Russia as a friendly state. He expressed the hope that the Russian-Moldovan cooperation will continue developing. “I am sure that we will succeed in preserving our mutually beneficial and stable relations.”

The meeting was attended by Deputy Speaker Iliyas Umakhanov, Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Konstantin Kosachev, Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Farit Mukhametshin, member of the Federation Council Committee on Social Policy Viktor Abramov, member of the Federation Council Committee on Science, Education and Culture Alexei Kondratyev and member of the Federation Council Committee on Federal Structure, Regional Policy, Local Government and Northern Affairs Viktor Pavlenko.
