in connection with the International Day of Parliamentarism
On the eve of the International Day of Parliamentarism, which is celebrated annually on 30 June in accordance with the United Nations General Assembly Resolution A/Res/72/278 of 22 May 2018, the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation calls upon international parliamentary organizations and national parliaments to join their efforts in seeking solutions to the challenges facing the international community.
The Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, in the year marking the 120th anniversary of the start of the participation of representatives of the Russian legislature in the activities of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), acknowledges the positive contribution that the IPU makes to the development of dialogue and mutual understanding between legislators from different States.
As a new, more equitable polycentric world order is taking shape, cooperation between parliamentarians at the events sponsored by the IPU – such as the World Conference of Speakers of Parliaments, G20 Parliamentary Speakers' Summit, Summit of Women Speakers of Parliament is of particular importance, as well as cooperation between legislators through the BRICS Parliamentary Forum and regional parliamentary organisations and associations.
The senators of the Russian Federation invite the interested parliaments of Eurasian States to engage in a wide-ranging discussion on the creation of an architecture of equal and indivisible security on the continent, also with a view to drafting a Eurasian Charter of Diversity and Multipolarity in the 21st Century.
The senators of the Russian Federation call upon the parliamentarians from foreign States to oppose the application of double standards in the evaluation of international conflicts and their root causes, to express support for the strict observance of the Charter of the United Nations, and for unconditional respect for the rights of all people, regardless of their race, gender, language, religion or nationality, and to condemn the actions of States that resort to terrorist methods to achieve their aims.
The Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation congratulates its fellow legislators on the International Day of Parliamentarism and calls for joint contribution to reducing tensions in international relations, shaping a constructive agenda, and establishing a new, equitable, multipolar world order based on strict observance of the norms of international law.
