The Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation expresses its deep concern about the deployment of a group of Naval Forces of the United States of America (USA) in the southern Caribbean, in the vicinity of the territorial waters of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, under the pretext of combatting drug trafficking cartels.
The provocative actions of the United States run counter to the universally recognized principles and norms of international law, including those enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, and lead to a dangerous aggravation of tensions in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation firmly supports the leadership of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in its right to defend its national sovereignty.
The Senators of the Russian Federation advocate the stable and independent development of the region of Latin America and the Caribbean and consider it important to refrain from escalation or threats. Any emerging cross-border issues should be resolved through cooperation among countries within the framework of international law.
The Senators of the Russian Federation emphasize that the Russian Federation and the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela enjoy relations built on strategic partnership and cooperation, and reaffirm their readiness to further strengthen and enhance bilateral interaction with the National Assembly of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
The Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation calls on the Inter-Parliamentary Union, other international parliamentary organizations, as well as parliaments of foreign States to strongly condemn the use of threat of force against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and voice their support for maintaining peace in Latin America and the Caribbean.
