Statement of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation

in connection with the International Day of Parliamentarism

FEDERATION COUNCIL
OF THE FEDERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION
STATEMENT

in connection with the International Day of Parliamentarism

The Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, on the eve of the International Day of Parliamentarism celebrated annually on 30 June in accordance with United Nations General Assembly resolution A/Res/72/278 adopted on 22 May 2018, is calling on international parliamentary organizations and national parliaments to cooperate to resolve together the most difficult challenges facing humanity.

The Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation notes that the system of international relations established as a result of the Great Victory of the USSR and its allies in the Second World War and having the United Nations (UN) as its central element, made it possible to lay the legal foundations for the formation of a modern, just and multipolar world order.

Senators of the Russian Federation express their strong protest against the policy of the West aimed at falsification of history, rehabilitation of Nazism and glorification of its henchmen, demolishing and dismantling monuments to Soviet soldiers who liberated the world from the ‘brown plague’.

The Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation is deeply concerned about the destructive course of a number of States of the Collective West, including the Federal Republic of Germany, to pump up the Kiev regime with weapons and militarize Europe, which poses the threat to same States of direct involvement in the conflict in Ukraine, destabilization of the situation in Europe, and fuelling a new world war.

The Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation states that in these difficult conditions, parliamentary diplomacy remains highly important as an effective tool for dialogue among the States and peoples, especially in crises.

Senators of the Russian Federation resolutely condemn the policy of illegal sanctions against parliamentarians and attempts to block the work of legislators and their delegations in international parliamentary organizations.

The Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation notes that the Inter-Parliamentary Union and its leadership enjoy well-deserved respect among the legislators from different countries, including for their efforts to promote the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by UN General Assembly resolution A/Res/70/1 on 25 September 2015. It is essential to continue working to strengthen cooperation between the UN and the Inter-Parliamentary Union, as well as between the United Nations and the national parliaments.

Senators of the Russian Federation emphasize the close interaction with fellow parliamentarians within the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Belarus and Russia.

The Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation expresses confidence in further enhancing cooperation and fostering mutual understanding with the Arab Parliament, Latin American and Caribbean Parliament, Parliament of the Southern Common Market, Central American Parliament, as well as with the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union, African Parliamentary Union, Pan-African Parliament, Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Member States, Asian Parliamentary Assembly, Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, and Asia Pacific Parliamentary Forum.

Senators of the Russian Federation congratulate fellow parliamentarians on the International Day of Parliamentarism, calling for joint efforts to further develop dialogue within inter-parliamentary organizations, to expand direct contacts between the national parliaments, counter illegal sanctions against legislators, and continue the work on forming a just multipolar world order based on the universally recognized principles and norms of international law.
