Egypt takes pride in its friendly relations with Russia, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi said


President of the Arab Republic of Egypt Abdel Fattah el-Sisi delivered a speech at the Federation Council. The meeting with the Egyptian president was attended by Speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko and took place at the conference room of the Russian Parliament’s upper chamber.

Abdel Fattah el-Sisi greeted the senators on behalf of the Egyptian people and said that his country took pride in its friendly relations with Russia.

He went on to say that Russia had invariably lent a hand to his country when it was going through hard times and this historical position would always be highly appreciated by the Egyptian people.

Abdel Fattah el-Sisi spoke of the new economic projects initiated by Russia and Egypt, including the construction of a nuclear power station in his country and creation of an industrial zone to the east of the Suez Canal.

The Egyptian president assured the audience that Russian investors would fully benefit from moving into the Egyptian market.

Next, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi spoke about fighting terrorism, saying that he believed it was necessary to join efforts to eradicate this evil that is rooted in economic and social problems that have yet to be resolved.

He highlighted the importance of complying with international law and the principles underlying the UN, as well as preserving the national identity and territorial integrity of all countries. In this context, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi touched on the Syria issue, saying that it must be settled in a peaceful way.

In conclusion, the Egyptian president emphasised that Egypt would continue to rely on Russia’s assistance and support in various areas.
