Federation Council delegation met with President of the Senate of France Gérard Larcher

The parties agreed to continue high-level strategic parliamentary dialogue provided for by the Memorandum on Cooperation signed in Moscow in February 2017, Konstantin Kosachev said.

The delegation of the Federation Council headed by Chair of Federation Council Committee on International Affairs Konstantin Kosachev was received by President of the Senate of France Gérard Larcher following a joint meeting with the Foreign Affairs, Defence and Armed Forces Committee of the Senate of France.

During the meeting, Gérard Larcher stressed the significance of the unique initiative of the Senate and the Federation Council on preparing a joint report on the prospects of Russian-French relations.

“The report went down in history and had no analogues,” the President of the Senate said. The conclusions of the joint parliamentary report are expected to be used in preparations for French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to Russia in May 2018. In this connection, Gérard Larcher also noted that he would discuss further steps on the implementation of the report with Speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko.

Chair of Federation Council Committee on International Affairs Konstantin Kosachev highlighted the part played by the Speakers of the upper chambers of Russian and French Parliaments in preparing the joint report “Russia-France: Restoring Trust Through Parliamentary Dialogue.”
