President of the Assembly of the Republic of Mozambique Esperança Bias addresses the Federation Council

The Russian-Mozambican partnership has always been and remains strategic, Esperança Bias emphasised.

President of the Assembly of the Republic of Mozambique Esperança Bias spoke at the 544th meeting of the Federation Council as part of her official visit to Russia at the invitation of Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko.

The speaker of the Mozambican parliament conveyed fraternal greetings from the Mozambican people to the Russian senators and thanked the Russian Federation for supporting her country. “Cooperation between Mozambique and Russia rests on a foundation of profound friendship that unites our nations. This cooperation dates back to the days of Mozambique’s struggle for independence. Russia has always been with us in difficult moments of our history,” Esperança Bias underscored.

She referred to Russian-Mozambican relations as a strategic partnership. “Despite the challenges stemming from internal and external factors, we hope to further develop economic and trade cooperation in order to maximise the potential of our countries on an equal and mutually beneficial basis. We commend our political, diplomatic and parliamentary relations, as well as ties in other areas,” the head of the Assembly added.

In her remarks, she thanked the Russian Federation for its great contribution to the education of Mozambican students, as well as for providing them with scholarships to pursue various fields of study.

The politician placed special emphasis on the expansion of interparliamentary ties, including cooperation at various international platforms. “Our cooperation in the parliamentary sphere relies on the Cooperation Agreement signed in Maputo between the Federation Council and the Assembly of the Republic of Mozambique,” Esperança Bias said. She believes that the joint activities of the two countries’ lawmakers will help create a favourable environment for business in both Russia and Mozambique.

Esperança Bias said that women in her country have recently achieved great results. They hold positions of responsibility in the parliament and the government of Mozambique.
