Konstantin Kosachev meets with the head of the IPU Task Force for Ukraine

The Senator explained Russia’s approaches to resolving the conflict and outlined the reasons that prevented a peaceful dialogue.


Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev had a meeting via videoconference with Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union’s Task Force for Ukraine, who is also Chairman of the Defence, Interior and Foreign Affairs Committee of the UAE Federal National Council and member of the IPU Executive Committee. The meeting was also attended by IPU Secretary General Martin Chungong.

The meeting was held as part of the dialogue maintained between the Russian parliamentary delegation and the IPU Task Force for Ukraine created after the 144th IPU Assembly (Nusa Dua, Indonesia) on 21 June 2022. The previous joint meeting took place on the sidelines of the 146th IPU Assembly in Manama (Kingdom of Bahrain).

The sides exchanged detailed assessments of prospects for a peaceful settlement in Ukraine and commented on the key issues determining the parameters of further dialogue.

The meeting was also attended by First Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Andrey Denisov and Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Andrey Klimov. The senators took part in the conversation on the subject under discussion and shared their views.

Both sides spoke out in favour of further contacts.

Established to encourage a dialogue between members of parliament of the Russian Federation and Ukraine, the IPU Task Force for Ukraine supports diplomatic efforts to settle the conflict.
