Valentina Matvienko: Only together can Russia and Belarus provide a strong response to any challenges

The Federation Council Speaker’s congratulations on the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Russia and Belarus.

Speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko sent messages of greetings to the leaders of Belarus on the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Russia and Belarus.

In her greetings to President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, the Federation Council Speaker noted that this is a significant date in our common history and a vivid symbol of Russian-Belarusian brotherhood. “History has repeatedly proven that only together can we provide a strong response to any challenges and threats. Tempered by joy and grief, our strong friendship is a reliable basis for alliance and partnership,” Valentina Matvienko stressed.

In her opinion, the unity of Russia and Belarus has special value today, when the international community is going through a difficult period of conflicts and crises. The Republic of Belarus is Russia’s truly friend, the Federation Council Speaker added. “Joint achievements in strengthening the Union State are a positive example of successful integration processes within the Commonwealth of Independent States.”

In a message to Speaker of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalya Kochanova, Valentina Matvienko noted her readiness to maintain a high level of interaction and make every effort to promote dialogue between the legislators. According to Valentina Matvienko, the creative potential of inter-parliamentary relations is especially in demand in the current conditions of comprehensive strengthening of relations between the two countries at all levels.

The Federation Council Speaker is confident that the 10th Forum of the Regions of Russia and Belarus to be held in Ufa this summer will give a new impetus to interregional cooperation and will be an excellent opportunity to meet with participants in the Memory Train youth patriotic project.

“The accumulated rich experience of inter-parliamentary dialogue will continue to contribute to the creation of a solid foundation for building peace, stability, economic growth and prosperity of the two states for the benefit of our fraternal nations,” said Valentina Matvienko in a message to Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko.

The Federation Council Speaker believes that, thanks to the constructive bilateral cooperation between Russia and Belarus, an effective legal framework has been created, and mutually beneficial integration mechanisms have been developed to shape the socio-economic and humanitarian space of the Union State. “In the face of new challenges and threats, the desire to enjoy good neighbourly relations has united people in building an independent, democratic and prosperous society.”

In her greetings to the people of the two countries, Valentina Matvienko expressed confidence that the strategic partnership and alliance between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus will continue to develop consistently and dynamically in the future.
