Grigory Karasin: Friendly and partner-like relations between Russian and Algerian MPs meet both countries’ long-term interests

Russian senators met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Algeria to the Russian Federation.

Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Grigory Karasin met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria (PDRA) to the Russian Federation Smail Benamara.

Attending the event were Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Agriculture and Food Policy and Environmental Management Alexander Dvoinykh, Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Social Policy Inna Svyatenko, and Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Defence and Security Yuri Valyaev, Head of the Group for Cooperation between the Federation Council and the Council of the Nation of the PDRA Parliament.

The parties discussed the results of the official visit by a Federation Council delegation, headed by the Federation Council Speaker, to Algeria on 16–17 March 2023.

“Russia and Algeria are expanding friendly and partner-like relations that meet the long-term interests of both countries,” Grigory Karasin noted.

The legislator pointed out that the recent visit by a Russian parliamentary delegation, headed by the Federation Council Speaker, to Algeria had helped expand mutually beneficial bilateral trade, economic and political cooperation. The visit also facilitated more intensive interaction in addressing serious global issues, as well as more active inter-parliamentary dialogue between specialised committees of the upper houses of parliament and friendship groups.

Smail Benamara noted the large number of attendees and added that diverse strategic cooperation was developing positively.

The parties discussed practical steps to implement the agreements reached during talks between Russian senators and Algerian officials.
