Konstantin Kosachev meets with Ambassador of Qatar to the Russian Federation Sheikh Ahmed bin Nasser bin Jasim Al Thani

The Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council described Russia’s relations with Qatar as friendly and constructive.

Federation Council Speaker Konstantin Kosachev met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Qatar to the Russian Federation Sheikh Ahmed bin Nasser bin Jasim Al Thani.

“Russia considers relations with Qatar friendly and constructive,” Konstantin Kosachev said.

He said like many other states Qatar does not yield to Western pressure and conducts a sovereign policy, which has a positive impact on Russia-Qatar relations.

“We have many points of contact, primarily in trade and the economy, especially in the energy and gas sector. We also have new projects like the North-South international transport corridor. It will enhance the transport potential of its participants,” said Konstantin Kosachev.

He recalled that the Federation Council Speaker discussed this issue with the Emir of the State of Qatar in the upper chamber of Parliament. “There is obvious progress on the issues discussed,” Mr Kosachev said.

According to Sheikh Ahmed bin Nasser bin Jasim Al Thani, Russia and Qatar have developed privileged relations. He noted that the two countries continue cooperating in the most diverse areas that include investment as an important component.

The Ambassador expressed his intention to support joint efforts of Russian and Qatari lawmakers.

According to Konstantin Kosachev, meetings with diplomats make it possible to analyse in detail the condition and prospects of bilateral interstate relations and the role played by parliaments in this respect. The Deputy Speaker assured the Ambassador that the Federation Council would take additional steps to boost cooperation between friendship groups.
