The Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council met with the First Vice President of the National Assembly of Ecuador.

Federation Council Deputy Speaker Konstantin Kosachev met First Vice President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Ecuador, Marcela Priscila Holguín Naranjo, who led an Ecuadorean parliamentary delegation to Russia. Dina Oyun, a member of the Federation Council Committee on Budget and Financial Markets and Head of the Federation Council Group for Cooperation with the National Assembly of the Republic of Ecuador, attended the meeting.

According to Konstantin Kosachev, Ecuador is one of Russia’s important partners in Latin America. “Regular inter-parliamentary meetings help invigorate bilateral cooperation.”

“We are satisfied that the National Assembly of the Republic of Ecuador has established an Ecuador-Russia friendship group. We hope this will promote additional interaction between Russian and Ecuadorean members of parliament,” the Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council said.

Konstantin Kosachev noted that, despite the sanctions policies of unfriendly countries, businesses from Russia and Ecuador were trying to maintain working relations and friendly ties.

The Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council said bilateral relations should rest on a solid legal framework. The legislator suggested that Ecuador’s National Assembly could help draft the relevant documents in the nuclear power industry, space exploration and information technologies more quickly.

Marcela Priscila Holguín Naranjo said Ecuador sees Russia as a friendly country. According to the First Vice President of the Ecuadorean Parliament, it is important to maintain and strengthen intensive and productive relations with the help of friendship groups. In her words, members of the National Assembly suggest continuing and expanding bilateral trade, and economic and cultural relations. Ecuador is interested in unimpeded agricultural and flower product exports to Russia and is in need of Russian fertiliser.
