Konstantin Kosachev: Russia-India relations have reached the highest level of mutual understanding, trust and cooperation

Federation Council Deputy Speaker addressed a ceremony marking 75 years of India’s independence.


Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev attended an event marking the 75th anniversary of India’s independence.

The ceremony was organised by the Russian Association of International Cooperation, the Indian Embassy in Moscow and the Russian Historical Society. Attendees included Indian Ambassador to Russia Pavan Kapoor, Board Chair of the Russian Historical Society Konstantin Mogilevsky, President of the Russia-India Friendship Society Yevgeny Shilnikov, Chair of the Presidium of the Russian Association of International Cooperation Sergei Kalashnikov, statepersons and public figures representing both countries.

Greetings were read out from Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Bhubaneswar Kalita, President of the India-Russia Foundation and Deputy Speaker of the Rajya Sabha (the upper house) of the Indian Parliament.

“Without exaggeration, India’s Independence Day has significance for the whole of humanity. It has become a symbol of liberation not only for a nation but for an entire civilisation,” Konstantin Kosachev noted in his remarks.

“This historic day also played an invaluable role in the development of the relations between the friendly peoples of Russia and India. These relations have now reached the highest level of mutual understanding, trust and cooperation,” the senator stressed.

Honorary guests received commemorative envelopes with stamps marking the 75th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between the two countries. The attendees visited an exhibition dedicated to India by member of the Moscow Union of Artists Konstantin Polyakov.
