Konstantin Kosachev meets with Armenian Ambassador to Russia Vagharshak Harutiunyan

Interstate agreements are implemented more consistently if they have parliamentary support, the Deputy Speaker said.

Federation Council Deputy Speaker Konstantin Kosachev held a meeting with Vagharshak Harutiunyan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to the Russian Federation.

”Armenia is a friendly and strategically important country for Russia,“ Konstantin Kosachev stressed.

He noted the high level of bilateral contacts, as well as the significant number of interstate, intergovernmental and interdepartmental treaties and agreements. Konstantin Kosachev highlighted the activity of the Interparliamentary Committee on Cooperation between the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia.

”Interstate agreements are implemented more consistently if they have parliamentary support,“ the Deputy Speaker stressed.

In that context, he underscored the need to continue the practice of regular meetings between the two countries’ parliamentarians at the level of specialised committees.

Vagharshak Harutiunyan praised the contribution of the Russian MPs to the development of Russian-Armenian interstate relations.

In his opinion, holding meetings of the Interparliamentary Committee on Cooperation between the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia in the regions is of great importance for strengthening interregional relations.

Vagharshak Harutiunyan finds that region-to-region cooperation is an important area that deepens Russian-Armenian cooperation.

During the meeting, Konstantin Kosachev and Vagharshak Harutiunyan touched upon cultural cooperation, including the promotion of the Russian language and culture, and the creation of conditions to further support ethnic diasporas in Russia and Armenia.
