Konstantin Kosachev holds talks with Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Martin Chungong

The parties discussed preparations for the World Conference on Intercultural and Interfaith Dialogue.

On the International Day of Parliamentarism, Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev held talks with Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Martin Chungong over the phone.

The head of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) thanked members of the Russian parliament for proposing to establish the holiday during the 137th IPU Assembly in 2017 in St Petersburg.

Konstantin Kosachev and Martin Chungong noted that after four years, the International Day of Parliamentarism is a highly recognised and important event when it comes to coordinating efforts of parliaments around the world to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals and other major objectives in parliamentary diplomacy.

“It is important that the IPU, in its cooperation with the United Nations, remains the world leader in parliamentary initiatives and decisions concerning the global agenda,” Konstantin Kosachev stressed.

The key point of the discussion was preparations for the World Conference on Intercultural and Interfaith Dialogue to be held in May 2022 in St Petersburg.

Martin Chungong confirmed that the event is a priority for the Inter-Parliamentary Union, which it considers as one of the essential international humanitarian events of this decade.

Konstantin Kosachev offered any assistance necessary for the successful organisation of the conference.
