Valentina Matvienko sends greetings to MPs from the CIS and other foreign countries as well as representatives of interparliamentary organisations on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of Victory

The memory of the heroic deed of those who fought for the destinies of future generations is still in our hearts, noted Speaker of the Federation Council.


Speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko sent greetings on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of Victory over Nazism, on behalf of the Russian Parliament’s upper chamber and on her own behalf, to her colleagues in the Commonwealth of Independent States and several leaders of foreign parliaments and international parliamentary organisations.

The Speaker of the Federation Council sent letters of greetings to Speaker of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan Sahiba Gafarova, President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan, Speaker of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Natalya Kochanova, Chair of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Maulen Ashimbayev, Speaker of the Supreme Council of the Kyrgyz Republic Dastan Jumabekov, Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova Zinaida Greceanii, Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Tajikistan Rustam Emomali, Chair of the Mejlis of the Republic of Turkmenistan Gulshat Mammedova and Chair of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbaeva.

In her message to heads of parliament of the CIS countries, Valentina Matvienko stressed that 9 May is a sacred date in our common history that has become a symbol of the joint fight against Nazism. Therefore, the CIS has declared 2020 the Year of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941 – 1945.

In her letter to President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Rik Daems, Valentina Matvienko noted that on these memorable days we honour the soldier liberators and homefront workers, thanks to whom present generations can live. “The Soviet Union paid 27 million human lives for the Great Victory, and other European countries also suffered serious losses.”
