Konstantin Kosachev: Peoples of Russia and Azerbaijan united by cultural traditions and spiritual values

The Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs spoke at the Baku International Humanitarian Forum.

Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Konstantin Kosachev spoke at the Moscow–Baku: Dialogue of Cultures conference held as part of the fifth Baku International Humanitarian Forum.

The senator stressed the importance of humanitarian ties between the two friendly nations under the conditions of the tense geopolitical rivalry imposed by adepts of the unipolar world.

According to Konstantin Kosachev, the peoples of Russia and Azerbaijan are not only united by their common history and geographic proximity, but also by their close cultural traditions and spiritual values that predetermine the high level of political and economic relations of mutually beneficial cooperation.

The committee chair also commented on the importance of an inter-parliamentary dialogue and wished Azerbaijan every success for the parliamentary elections due to be held on 9 February 2020.

Konstantin Kosachev updated those at the conference on the preparations taking place for the Global Conference on Inter-Ethnic and Inter-Religious Dialogue scheduled to take place in Russia on 21 May 2022. The initiative to hold this event is more or less the same as that of the Baku process, the next step of which was taking place in Baku at the time.

The decision to hold the Baku International Humanitarian Forum was made in 2010 at the joint initiative of the Russian and Azerbaijani presidents.

Azerbaijani Minister of Culture Abulfas Garayev, Special Presidential Envoy for International Cultural Cooperation Mikhail Shvydkoi, ITAR-TASS First Deputy General Director Mikhail Gusman, and heads of federal agencies, parliamentarians, academicians and medical circles took part in the events at the forum.
